I joined the ride at cheddar and my first experience following a H-D was a bizarre one, I was behind Warren on Tallulah, traveling very slowly up the bikers dream road. Every corner was a series of wobbles connected by short bursts of noise. Then I noticed the flat tyre and the start of a familiar routeen of pumping up wherever possible.

Another was when I left the ride at Northampton, having said my goodbyes at the hotel I tooted goodby and waved, I set off for home only to be surounded by bikes at the first lights. Apparently 1/2 the bunch had mistaken me for Justin and thought the game was on - Lemmings 😄

I had a great time and thanks for all the sorting, looking forward to next year already.

“Spending quality time with your son/best mate,
raising money for the most deserved cause with a great bunch of guys”

I was invited to help out by Dan Rix, following a family holiday earlier this year before lockdown. I never thought it would materialize as things unfolded with Covid 19, but when the final day arrived I was full of trepidation.

I went in blind, knowing only one person, but something extraordinary happened that week, I became part of a team. That may sound cheesy perhaps, but I’m not a team player. I’ve always hated any team sports, I’ve been self employed pretty much since 1992 and my teaching job now requires me to be “part of a team” which is horrendous... But, this team was different, this team everyone had a part to play, and they all played it well.

From the vastly experienced riders who looked out for the novice, to van and car slowing traffic safely to allow the bikes to enter or depart a fuel stop.

I went in blind and I came out missing my new mates!

Day one....wtf have I got myself involved in.
Day two... getting the hang of this, it’s alright.
Day three... massive efforts to get all bikes to work & to the destination...hardest day for me by far...but I was neck deep in “ teamwork”
Day four....a well oiled team were in fine form.
Day five....the sense of achievement & helping the guys reach the finish line, was emotional....!

It was a great lesson in life, taking me way out of my comfort zone, in a very healthy way!
